The Centre for the International Promotion of Security (CIPS) transpired as an effort to cover
the emerging needs of crisis management within the new international security paradigm.
Globalization in the 21st Century has reduced the distance between sovereign territories and thus
conflicts. New preventative and co-operation policies try to avoid, prevent or dismiss the increasing
instability incurred by the anarchic nature of the international system.
Crisis management has been extended from the traditional realms of the military and politics to
further encompass economics, society and the environment on an ever increasing level.
